Apple Releases iOS 5.1.1

iOS 5.1.1

Apple today released iOS 5.1.1, offering HDR, Airplay and Safari fixes and other improvements for recent models of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • Improves reliability of using HDR option for photos taken using the Lock Screen shortcut
  • Addresses bugs that could prevent the new iPad from switching between 2G and 3G networks
  • Fixes bugs that affected AirPlay video playback in some circumstances
  • Improved reliability for syncing Safari bookmarks and Reading List
  • Fixes an issue where ‘Unable to purchase’ alert could be displayed after successful purchase

iOS Devices Storage Crunch

With the advent of the new iPad’s Retina display, its flagship feature, there becomes a new storage issue. That’s because in order to take advantage of that display, apps need to generate new versions of their graphical assets. The new iPad sports four times as many pixels as its predecessors, so for Retina display support, apps need new images that are twice as wide and twice as tall as before. The physically larger images, of course, wind up as larger files in terms of megabytes, too. And that’s going to become a problem pretty quickly given that you can’t upgrade your iPad’s storage capacity.

iOS 5.1 Released

A few minor changes accompanied iOS 5.1, which launched alongside the new iPad.

New features include the ability to delete photos from Photo Stream, camera face detection now highlighting all faces in a picture, a slightly redesigned Camera app UI for the iPad, Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match users, improved audio for movies and TV shows, podcast controls for playback speed and a 30-second rewind for the iPad.

Also announce were fixes for bugs affecting battery life.

iOS 5.0.1 Released to Sort Battery Issues

On 10th November Apple released iOS 5.0.1, an update that brings fixes for users suffering from decreased battery life under iOS 5. The update also sports a couple of additional features, including multitasking gestures for original iPad users, and bug fixes.

Apple Launch the iPhone 4S

Apple have today announced the iPhone 4S, the latest incarnation of the iPhone, which will be launched on 14th October 2011.

Whilst some people were surprised that this new iPhone was not radically different in looks from the iPhone 4 or was not called the iPhone 5 it is clear that this is a completely redesigned phone utilising the iPhone 4’s existing exterior.

So other than it looks the same as the iPhone 4, what defines the iPhone 4S?

Apple Releases iOS 4.3.4

After a recent report from the German government regarding PDF-related security vulnerabilities in MobileSafari, Apple has released updates for all iOS devices that fix the problem.

Though they both fix the same three vulnerabilities, the patch comes in two versions, thanks to the different flavours of the iPhone 4. iOS 4.3.4 applies to the iPad and iPad 2, the third- and fourth-generation iPod touch, the iPhone 3GS, and the iPhone 4 (GSM model); users of the CDMA model of the iPhone 4 instead get iOS 4.2.9.
